Aloha, I’m Ashley. I write about life through the lens of love for creative souls who seek to make life more beautiful. This is Tiny Wonders: Summer 24, where I share snippets of awe and reminders to pause in a fast-paced world.
We’d just returned from a three-mile walk with the dogs, and the sun, swung far north in its summer angle, was setting. It’s always beautiful, the way the golden light gilds the landscape, but in that moment, I noticed this rose and that shaft of light were perfectly aligned. Its petals were backlit and glowing. For a fleeting point in time, the rose looked illuminated, was illuminated.
I will never witness that exact moment again, which is true of all moments, but this one was particularly singular — like an ancient stone circle that aligns with a constellation once every three hundred years.
These concurrences excite me. They feel rare and precious. While they might not, as a category, be rare, they are treasures. I think they only feel rare when we’re not open to being awed by the mystery and synchronicities that surround us. When we don’t avail ourselves of the awesome power of the mundane but instead remain mired in routine, we miss them.
Transitory treasures abound. I don’t really think they care if they’re seen, but I do believe they love to be appreciated.
